Got my new laptop today (ECS Green556)
Yup. today it arrived (or technically yesterday, since its 1AM). I unwrapped it, and started installing Fedora Linux 3
Installing Fedora Linux 3 on ECS Green 556 —>
The installation went nicely… No problems with a basic install… but, the wlan card wasnt detected. This was as expected.
So… i went to ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net, and checked if ndiswrapper supported the card (Intel PRO Wireless 2200). And it did. Off we go…
My kernel freezes when I modprobe ndiswrapper. This is a known problem, and is related to Fedora’s 4kb limit on the driver stack. When I try to load a 12kb driver this causes trouble. So… download the modified kernel package that ndiswrapper recommended.
Woha! Kudzu detects my card the next time I booted, and asks me to set it up.
Thats a step in the right direction (I didn’t even need ndiswrapper). But the card still doesnt work .
ipw2200-enhet eth1 ser ikke ut til å være tilstede, venter med initiering.
I gave this up for now… I’ll try another distribution tomorrow
