WeSIP - SIP application server

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

WeSIP seems like an interesting project, or at least there might be built lots of interesting applications on top of it. WeSIP is for SIP what Jboss, Tomcat and others are for HTTP.

For the uninitiated, SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol, and is used to set up sessions for VoIP, games, IM and more. The SIP protocol is very similar to another successful protocol you might have heard of, http.

w00t?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Today I noticed this in my access.log:

  1. 67.19.113.154 - - [24/Mar/2008:16:02:10 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"
  2. 65.111.181.35 - - [24/Mar/2008:20:02:22 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"
  3. 67.19.113.154 - - [24/Mar/2008:20:15:38 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"
  4. 67.19.113.154 - - [25/Mar/2008:00:26:37 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"
  5. 67.19.113.154 - - [25/Mar/2008:04:37:39 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"
  6. 67.19.113.154 - - [25/Mar/2008:08:52:25 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"
  7. 67.19.113.154 - - [25/Mar/2008:13:05:07 +0100] "GET /w00tw00t.at.ISC.SANS.DFind:) HTTP/1.1" 400 363 "-" "-"

What goes on here?
All these requests fail, ofcourse, but in addition to the obvious (404), the client also doesnt supply a Host: header for their HTTP/1.1 requests

update

It is safe to assume that this is an attempt to hack me in some way, DFind is appearantly some kind of security scannerref. The same IPs are also bruteforcing some URLs (like /phpmyadmin etc..) looking for somthing fun to poke around with.

Techies, printers and common people

Monday, October 11th, 2004

As you can see from my last post, I’m a little frustrated with printers today. Here’s the story why.

I had a paper on XML to deliver today. One digital copy via mail, and one that should be delivered on paper. The digital copy was no problem at all, just pack the files and send them to the right person. The paper copy on the other hand was not that easy to deliver. One thing is that I actually have to go to campus to deliver it, I cant understand why we have to deliver a paper copy, but I can live with that. The problem is; I have no printer. I have to rely on the Océ monster where I volunteerly work as an IT-admin.

Today this gray box from hell had broken down again. Last time it happened it took Océ over 10 days to reassemble the box to fix it. So I asked one of the people i share a flat with if I could borrow her printer. No problem. She borrowed me the printer. Then I had to install the printer. I have never installed a printer on Linux before and tried various approaches. This took time. Too much time. The paper had to be delivered at 13:00 and at 12:38 I was still home. I ran to the bus, I ran like hell…. I dont think I have ever ran that fast. I reached the bus, and got down to campus.

I started looking for a printer. I found one in the back corner of the HumInf lab on hf-bygget. I thought phew. The printer was out of paper, but there was a lot of copying paper in the room so I thought that wasnt a problem. I was wrong. Someone had assumed point 2 in Common mistakes about printers, If its out of paper, it will magically refill itself if you send enough copies of your docoment to it. It started spitting out dozens of papers, and would not stop. So I rebooted it, knowing that that would make a paper-jam, but I assumed it would be faster to fix than wait for all these copies. The paper-jam was severe, the paper was really stuck, but at last I got it out, and got my paper printed, and delivered it at 12:59:40

There are one thing worse than printers, and that is printers in a public place

I really have to work on my english…

Common mistakes about printers

Monday, October 11th, 2004
  1. It has chips and silicon, techies must like them.
NO! Techies hate them too! Noone likes printers (except those people at Xerox of course)
  2. If its out of paper, it will magically refill itself if you send enough copies of your docoment to it
NO! But its a very efficient way to make the IT-staff angry
  3. When the printer display (or driver) says Paper jam it means you should jam more printjobs into it
NO! As with point 2 it is a very efficient way to get the IT-staff angry
  4. When the box says plug and play, it means that the printer works under 20 minutes after installing it
Partly correct. Some printers actually does this. In most cases it means Plug it in, and play around to see if you can get it working

Have a tip for more Common mistakes about printers? please comment

Just discovered this tracker for linux. It looks fine, but I don’t have the skills to test it.

Completely Based on Fast Tracker 2 Environment. If you liked Fast Tracker 2, you will feel like in the same program, but with newer enhancements.

It doesnt seem to me like its open source :( But hey! its for Linux, and I can be wrong

We have created this program to you all. This will be free (no charge) to use for the Scene. (not open source)

LOL

I live code by the following rules:

  • Keep it simple, stupid
  • If its not broken, don’t fix it

It seems like someone don’t

The link above is dead, and I don’t know what this was about :p

Mounting floppies

Friday, October 8th, 2004

One of the things people moving from windows to linux find strange is that you have to mount cd’s and floppies to read them. You have to say to the system that you want it to handle floppies before you open it, and to stop handling it before you eject the floppy. Here is a howto.

I want a new laptop

Saturday, October 2nd, 2004

My old laptop is delivered with an external battery (or as the labeling says: UPS), that weighs about the same as a notebook computer. The laptop itself is 1.5″ thick, has a bit white edge around the 14″ display, which is XGA. I find 1204×768px claustrophobic. The charger, the battery and the laptop has bad contact in the plugins for power. The PSU makes elzapp when I move it. To make this short: I really want a new laptop.

So, I checked if my favorite Laptop vendor (ECS) has something interresting. And they has ……..
